ain't no sick cats down this end of the road!
i've tended to avoid talking about this topic on lj b4 cuz i believe tat ppl are entitled to their own lives and the way they wanna lead it. but sometimes an idiot will come along and a seed of slow-burning flame will be planted within me, one tat gradually boils over into full-on PISSED mode!
an overly sensitive colleague of mine tole me this todae, in response to me jokingly calling him 'uncle': "u call me uncle cuz u're not married." oookaaaayy, while we figure out the logic behind tat sentence and i was practicing my zen-ness to let tat sail over my head, the 2nd volley comes along.
in reaction to the possibility of after-work meetings, he declares, in an excruciatingly annoying, superior tone: "i have a wife. i have a kid. i have a FAMILY. i can't do these kinds of things." the implication here being tat us poor single, childless ppl can of course afford to spare our ample amounts of free time to continue to discuss work.
i din't argue with him, cuz a) i was too tired after my recently hectic social schedule (ie. activities OUTSIDE OF WORK) and b) i really do like his wife (she's so much more nicer than he is). so for her sake, i let sleeping hw's lie.
now, 1stly, i have a fren who is 2 years younger than me, and i call him 'uncle' ALL THE TIME. it's his nickname, and we all refer to him fondly by it. if u can't be aware enough to differentiate btwn wat is a joke and an insult, or gracious enuff to take a little poke, then i'm sorry for u, cuz ur life will be filled with one resentment after another.
secondly... hello! I have a FAMILY too. jus cuz my family is not one made up of my husband and my kid, does it make my family inferior to urs? to bring tat further, where do u get off implying tat ur life is better than mine jus cuz u have a wife and kid? so u got married. so u had a kid. so WAT? see how morally superior u can get if ur kid turns out to be a serial killer, or some sort of wastrel/loser.
unfortunately, some of the single ppl tat i noe may become depressed or pressured when they hear statements like these, and i think we single ppl shouldn't. i dun - instead, i become PISSED at the assumptions they place on us.
i dun see my life as being pitiful or pathetic or empty or lacking - in fact, i tend to enjoy almost every single minute of it, minus some of the times at work, or when i have to deal with irritating ppl like the one i described above. it's jus tat my life is a different sort of life - and if i can respect and see tat, then i believe i should be afforded tat same courtesy back.
sadly, life is filled with many idiots with their heads up their behinds.
