残るのは後悔だけ

if one asked me last week why i'm watching 「プロポーズ大作戦」, i'd say it was for yamapi's effing good looks, but one episode in and i was completely hooked.  it's romance with a twist, inseparable frenship eroded by time and growing up, regrets and not living in the past.  apart from yamapi, whose iwase ken must be his best role since kusano akira in 野ブタ。をプロデュース, the rest of the cast were also fantastic actors, and their subplots really reinforced the main themes of the drama.  i cried buckets watching it, which was totally cathartic, and the theme song itself is beautiful :)

my recent spate of jap dramas seem to have moved away from high school tho, probably cuz the cute jap boys tat i fawn over are all also getting older.  now the themes are about entering society, finding yourself adrift and searching in a world beyond the classroom, the gap between dreams and reality, work & why the heck we do it, growing older and realising how time can pass a person by - some of these issues i've 'resolved', while others i still struggle with, so watching these shows have a special resonance.  

one of my all-time favs will always be 「anego～アネゴ～」, but the recent ones like:
- バンビーノ!  (about a young man who's striving to be a chef in an italian restaurant), 
- 特急田中３号 (where this young man joins some otaku train club to meet gals and forms some truly good frenships), and...
- 花嫁とパパ (about a young gal who decides to marry her colleague to get away from her over-protective father) were all pretty enjoyable.  

of course it helped tat the main leads in all these dramas are all pretty eye candy as well :)   and the ensemble cast backing them up are always very strong.

movie-wise, i've been bitten by the blockbuster bug and when in the dark faced with a gigantic screen, seem onli capable of appreciating explosions and wise-cracks, as evidenced by:
- transformers (SO one of the best movies of the year - the child in me will always squee in excitement hearing the sound these robots make when they transform :p), 
- die hard 4.0 (which became rather OTT but still, it's die HARD, rite?  besides, the action was good and i got pretty hung up on the nifty little roll-up keypad tat the hacker-boy keeps using) and...
- rush hour 3 (where the thing tat impressed me most was the incredible chemistry betwen jacky chan and chris tucker - their comic timing is absolutely amazing, it was so hilarious). 

the only exception was 881, a local film about 七月歌台 and the singers - the story is fantastical, and the costumes really bright and glittery - which is a nice change from the vaguely censorious tone we get from jack neo's movies.

ah well, wat would life be without pretty pictures and kick-ass stories, hey?  and dun forget, the music, omg the music!!
