nowadays the jap dramas have rather more variety in their themes compared to before. the ones i used to watch back in the 90's and even 2 to 3 years back were mostly focused on romance and family. the new ones released now are, of course, still based on these universal themes, but they add harder issues. there's a lot of focus on choices, which path to tread in the dance of life, what's truly important, money vs happiness. the worlds they create are no longer as idealistic or dreamy, it's not as straightforward with its cookie-cutter parents and unflagging encouragement.

huh, i jus wrote an essay on JAP DRAMAS! gotta clarify tho, that i dun go around searching for my intellectual stimulation at the vcd shops :p i'm superficial, and i always pick my shows based on the cute actors. dohmoto tsuyoshi for example, kusanagi tsuyoshi (omg, his cheekbones)... yamashita tomohisa is a new addition. i first saw him in stand up!! - as i said, i go for the guys, who cares as long as they're cute, and i'm SUCH a sucker for ninomiya kazunari :p - and thought he was a perfect bishonen. 'sorewa...' proves that he has a degree of acting skills, and he has such an adorable young kimura takuya - well, 'seh3' actually describes it best - sorta of an air about him. sugoku kawaii!!

thank god jap dramas are flooding the vcd market again. i have SO missed them and the incredible way they can slot everything into exactly 11 episodes :p
