birthdae celebrations
Aug. 9th, 2004 06:02 pmjus opposite from the flat from where i stay, there's this empty field that ppl around the neighbourhood tend to use as a soccer hangout. recently, it has become increasingly utilised for any sort of public events, which does not help with my attempts at afternoon siestas or evening relaxation.
for the past few days, over the long weekend in commeration of my semi-adopted country's 39th birthday, they've been holding some sort of lucky-draw-give-away type of event. the amps have been blasting patriotic songs so loudly i can hear it from the sixth floor. the ppl are flocking to the field.
the no of times tho, i have heard actual declarations of nationalistic fervour from the mc/audience: fingers. one hand.
the phrases that shall linger in my mind, on the other hand...
- come get your goodie bag, it's absolutely free. no need to pay any $$!
- each of you are only entitled to one goodie bag, pls dun queue up again after u've taken your goodie bag.
and my personal favourite:
- you've already taken your goodie bag. step AWAY from the goodie-bag area!
happy birthday, singapore.
