actually, one week isn't enuff time for me to rest and recover from the horrifying juggernaut that is work. ppl would say, and i guess at some point i'd be inclined to agree that once u're used to work, then jus staying at home would leave me bored to tears. well, maybe these ppl dun really have proper interests or things to do outside of work.

i've been happily lazing my days away doing the things i do best, watch movies, read, improve the livelihood of my frenly neighbourhood dvd seller, play ps2... um, maybe i'm not good at that last one. ANYWAY, my point is, i'm not bored yet, i think i would need at least another month b4 i become fed up and start thinking of this thing called work.

have been on big movie marathon, ever since i paid a visit to holiday plaza and did my bit in improving the economy there ^_~

1) lost in translation: a big sorry to all u guys whom i said i would watch the show with. i jus couldn't help myself, plus the thot that some of it would be censored jus decided it for me. i have to admit that this would have a film that i would have passed on if not for all the hype around it. it's not too bad, i thot bill murray did quite well, and it's an interesting look at how foreigners view the lifestyle of the japanese, at least in tokyo. the thing that lingers is that sense of isolation, of being alone in a crowd, which i'm sure everyone has experienced one time or another, be it geographically, mentally, or ethically. and that there is a hope of connecting with another like-minded soul, even if only for a while.

2) freaky friday: heh, this show is jus FUN! and jamie lee curtis was really good. i loved the way they scream at the slightest provocation, such drama queens... sorta reminds me of - me, actually ^_~

3) intolerable cruelty: another show i thot i should watch but missed when it was showing in the theaters. well, i loved catherine zeta-jones outfits ^_~ and they actually quoted shakespeare in some of the dialogue, or at least, to my not-very-literate ears it sounded shakespearean :p

4) runaway jury: the show is fantastic. gene hackman and dustin hoffman were solid. and john cusack is jus... sigh! i have a soft spot for the guy ever since i watched 'high fidelity' ^_^ but i love this court drama where the whole trial is jus a secondary backdrop to all the machinations that go on after court has adjourned. and it's also a nudge at the us gun industry to stop hiding behind the 2nd amendment and impose stricter sanctions on where and to whom they sell their guns. too many senseless deaths have occurred when some random out-of-control hick have managed to get their hands on a too-easily-available gun.

5) dogville: was nicole kidman nominated for best actress in this film as well? ah, she seems to be everywhere nowadays :p i guess this can be considered an arthouse film? paul bettany was in it! ^_^ i like paul bettany - regardless of the less-than-impressed reviews he got as maturin in 'master and commander', i thot he did a rather good job, and there was good chemistry and ust betwn him and russell crowe, who played jack aubrey, so i COULD be biased - so what? :p 'dogville' is like a play on film, which is quite a cool concept, and i guess u save on the budget as well? and it makes u think about human nature, and ur own nature, and what u urself might have done if u were in similar circumstances. a film that requires digestion, NOT the best film to watch late at night when u're near sleep. a tad long for me, or maybe that was the sleep talking :p

and amidst my busy schedule of movie viewing, i also managed to finish a couple of books. re-reading them actually, i love lynn flewelling's 'nightrunner' series, and going thru them again has not diminished its appeal any. ^_^
