have more or less resolved mom being stuck alone in perth problem - after cagey negotiations, we have decided tat mom will sightsee in the city and join a rottnest tour during the week, and i will accompany her to the pinnacles on sat. on sundae, i'll be at my aunt's place where she's staying - on the condition that i can bring my newly arrived 3rd season of '6 feet under' so i dun get bored to death. too bad, we aren't one of those closely bonded mother-dg pairs - we need psychological crutches to get along, so there :p
going to watch 'revenge of the sith' tonite. finally, i will be crossing over to the other side! from a total movie deprivation, i have suddenly flipped over and am going on a mad movie spree. tho it's cool how i can play 6 degrees of separation with all the movies i've been watching so far...
1st up was closer - which was funny but quite depressing. real tho, since i do noe ppl like tat. we never seem to be satisfied, i guess. 'closer' had jude law, julia roberts and natalie portman (and i can already link her back to sw3 lol)
then there was the existential comedy i (heart) huckabees, which shares an actor - jude law, and scott rudin, who appears to be pretty famous in the business but i dunno what for - with 'closer'. i loved 'huckabees' - these types of movies are the best: hilarious, witty, yet with layers of meaning - they challenge ur views, stretch ur mind, and dun depress u while they're doing it.
julia roberts also appeared in full frontal, which also had david hyde pierce, and i thot they were all absolutely brilliant. they also had hip-hop hitler, and 'the rules' :p i liked its desultoriness, its sorta-intimate voiceover. the ending was a bit fairytale-like, tho i liked the resolution of carl and lee's r/ship.
and though i thot in and out was pretty funny, it was nothing more than tat. maybe it was a bit controversial at the time it was releases, but no serious deep gay issues to be exposed here. and it was a bit irritating how all the cast and crew jus kept emphasising tat it was a funny movie, it's meant to be entertaining. thank you, we get it. in this day and age when 'queer as folk' is virtually mainstream, it's prob fallen to the wayside. oh, and this scott rudin guy was also in it.
punch-drunk love's connection to the preceding films is tat it has a song on its soundtrack that was composed and sung by jon brion, who also did quite a number of songs on 'huckabees' - amazing songwriter, that guy. and watching adam sandler here is definitely an eye-opening experience. it's so dreamy, and drenched with colour.
i'll prob stop this intense movie spree soon. my attention can't sustain it, nor can my wallet.
