ununoriginal: (eternalangel - ryo last friends)

ryo continues to stun me in the recent-est episode of last friends.  having refused to watch [1リットルの涙], noeing tat it would make me horribly depressed, i've only read of - but not actually witnessed - ryo's acting prowess.  he probably had like 10 minutes (?) of air time in this episode, but damn, he was the one tat left the greatest impact.

michiru did have a point when she said tat sousuke had a difficult childhood tat left its marks upon his adult psyche, resulting in his outbursts of violence.  whether he does it consciously or not, it's debatable - but it does seem like he also doesn't really have full control or rational thot over all his actions.  he may realise it, but only in a very superficial sense.

his lack of true insight into his unconscious emotions and how they drive his actions is in reality the most harmful thing of all.  it could be tat at the heart of himself, he doesn't truly believe he was in the wrong; or tat he's displacing his fear and self-loathing onto michiru; or tat he's obtaining vindication for all the nastiness he experienced in the past - there are a million and one reasons to justify or rationalise his actions, but ultimately, they are all merely excuses to redeem their unending abuse upon themselves and others.

this show disturbs and depresses the hell out of me, but it still keeps me hooked cuz the issues it portrays are so real.  in the course of my work, i have met michiru's and sousuke's - those of u who noe me might even recall tat not long ago i ended up treating a couple who both ended up in our hospital clinic cuz it all went horribly wrong for them.  as i got to noe the 2 of them, i found tat they were both intelligent, fairly rational individuals, yet they had this huge blind spot with regards to each other's motivations & actions, and also tat lack of self-awareness bt the impact of their own behaviour on the other party.  each of them were so wrapped up in their own issues tat they couldn't see beyond tat.

it was a very surreal and fairly conflicting experience having to treat the both of them (prob i shouldn't have, but tat's wat u get when ur workplace is chronically understaffed).  watching sousuke and his domestic violence on 'last friends' engenders the same emotions - u can see their point of view, feel for their 遭遇, even sort of 'understand' why they did wat they did, but over all this, the spectre of their violence still hangs, as well as the irreversible scars their actions have left behind.
