i guess there will always come a time in one's career as a health-care professional when something seriously harmful happens to a patient under one's care, whether it's thru one's own negligence or not. and i'm probably lucky that it hasn't happened till now. still, todae marks one of those moments when my heart stood still... SIGH!

fortunately, i was following post-op instructions that had been provided to me in duplicate, so when it comes down to placing the blame (which inevitably happens in the health care world - man, if this were the states, we'd prob already be bloody sued!), some careless doctor/nurse will have to face the music. still, it doesn't take away the fact that i feel SHITTY cuz now the patient's joint may have gone out of whack, he may have to go for another op, he may have to PAY for another op, and instead of beneficial care, more harm has been done to him than good.

primum non nocere - tat's the basic credo that we have to follow. above all, do no harm. tat din't happen todae.

i understand there's no such thing as perfect, and that no one can go thru a job without taking some tumbles, but at the mo it's jus all rhetoric running round in my brain. it ain't reaching the heart.
